The Bugatti Chiron has demonstrated beyond a shadow of a doubt that it is a phenomenal performer, finishing the 0-249mph sprint in just 41.96 seconds. A new world record has been set.

To bring a car to those speeds, a steady pair of hands is required. Even the tiniest misjudgment can result in calamity. Juan Pablo Montoya was enlisted by Bugatti. His credentials speak for themselves: three-time winner of the Daytona 24 Hours, two-time winner of the Indy 500, and three-time winner of the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix.

Montoya rocketed the car to 249bhp in less than 42 seconds from a complete stop before slamming on the brakes and coming to a halt. The entire event took place over a space of less than two miles.

The Chiron is an engineering marvel, with an 8-litre W16 engine delivering 1,479bhp and a top speed of over 261mph. The automobile will accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in less than 2.5 seconds, 0 to 124 mph in less than 6.5 seconds, and 0 to 183 mph in a mind-boggling 16.7 seconds.

The acceleration is incredible, but the deceleration is even more so. It takes only 275 meters to reach 186-0 mph.

Last year, the Veyron was replaced by the £1.9 million Bugatti Chiron, which continues the brand's record-breaking reputation.

Only 500 Chirons will be constructed, with 300 already reserved – so get your deposit check in as soon as possible if you want a piece of what will definitely become automotive history.
